Introduction

The years before kindergarten are some of the most important in a child’s development. Quality early education helps children build language, social, emotional, and learning skills that prepare them for long-term success.

But in Loudoun County, preschool and childcare costs are out of reach for many families. Even households earning well above national poverty levels can struggle to afford housing, transportation, utilities, food, and childcare at the same time.

Jon believes Loudoun should use its extraordinary resources to make early education more accessible. A family should not have to choose between paying rent and giving a child a strong start.

What Jon Supports

A Free Public Pre-K Option

  • Expanding public Pre-K classrooms throughout the county

  • Using schools, community centers, and other appropriate public facilities

  • Providing qualified teachers and appropriate staffing

  • Respecting parents’ ability to choose the setting that works best for their child

A public classroom may not be the best or most convenient option for every family. Parents should have flexibility.

Support for Working Families

  • Before- and after-care options where practical

  • Reduced gaps between the school calendar and childcare needs
